I was down in the fishroom doing water changes on the big pooper tanks. Got one tank done. Hauled the python across the room to the next tank in line. Took about %50 of the water out, cleaned the glass, fluffed up the plants, petted a few fish, and then got ready to fill 'er up.
Everything was going smoothly, so I decided to do a couple of the smaller tanks - less to do tomorrow. I was down on the floor doing the 20 gallon that's on the the bottom of a shelf unit. I heard a hissing sound. Confused, I turned around to see the phython had exploded and was twisting all over the place, shooting water everywhere. Now I know why they call it a python. Swearing mightily, I get up (not an easy job anymore) and hurry over there to grab the freaking thing. Never occured to me to turn the water off first. Duh. After I got a hold of it, I remembered to shut the water off. Did that. Turned around to see the bucket overflowing and running all over the floor on the other side of the room where I had left the gravel cleaner in the tank. I was multi-tasking. I should know better. It never works for me.
The hubby is going to get replacement parts at Lowe's tomorrow. Metal ones. Why they would put plastic parts on something that has to be dragged all over the floor is beyond me. I wanted to take it out in the front yard and set it on fire, but he was afraid I'd get arrested.
Water water everywhere, not a drop went in the sink.
