Well the german chocolates that were spawning when I went to bed last night decided to eat their eggs before morning.    So the next time I see them spawning I will stay up all night if I have to.  I had a tank ready to put the spawn in and this morning not one egg was left.  Man if they wanted omletts for breakfast I would have made it for them.......

They are a proven pair that a breeder gave me for my birthday.  He said that they would lay 300 to 500 eggs at a time.  They are in my bedroom where it is quiet and no one but me goes.  I am not going to give up on them.  The breeder never let them raise their brood.  I would rather have parent raised as it would be easier.  Maybe I disturbed them and that was the problem.  Hopefully they will be do it right next time or the time after.   I will double check the water conditions but they were fine 3 days ago.  I will keep you informed on how they do.   Thank you guys for your input.

Like Absolute Angels said, they will eat their eggs to prevent others from gettin them.  My angels spawned I bet 50 times before I got babies.  They were a young couple and I was stupid and had other fishies in there with them and they would eat them pretty much as fast as they laid them.  After I got them by themselves it still took about 6 months before I got babies.  I would get so mad at them and call them stupid but they eventually proved me wrong and had a gorgeous spawn and had about 30 babies.  They were smart parents after they got the hang of it.

Good Luck with yours and don't give up on them.

If they are a young pair...that is totally normal. It will take them a
few spawns to get the hang of it. IMO, let them!!!  Having a parent
raising pair is one of the best experiences an angel breeder can have!!
Not to mention less work for you :) Angels spawn every 10-14 days so
you will have many more chances for fry. If this is an older pair that
has spawned before and then eats their eggs...their was something
wrong, either they got spooked or their was something wrong with the
batch (angelfish are no dummies) Did you leave a light on for them so
they could see their eggs?? Are they in an area so as not to be
disturbed?? What is your water like...too hard of water will effect the
spawn. If the water is too hard the eggs cannot get fertilized
properly...therefore dies. Best thing to do when you see them spawning
is leave them alone...if they feel threatened they will eat their eggs
to prevent you from getting them. Might as will use that energy to
produce more eggs then give up a free meal...like I said angels are not
dummies. Good luck Georgie...they are a beautiful pair and hope they
produce a ton of nice looking babies!!
