A DEMPSEY SHOULD BE OK IF THEY ARE CLOSE TO THE SAME SIZE MAYBE SOME OSCARS***TRY REARRANGING  EVERYTHING OR ADD SOMETHING NEW FROM ANOTHER TANK BEFORE YOU PUT HIM IN IF YOU DIDNT ALREADY    MONICA

I also agree with Monica. After you rearange the tank, leave the lights off for an hour. You also, just might have a calm JD. If this doesn't work, let the Pacu chase the JD. He is most likely making sure that everyone knows whose tank it is. As long as the JD backs off, or they go mouth to mouth, their shouldn't be a problem. If one starts attacking the side or the fins, then there may be a problem.

There are times that this would work. I have fish, that should not be put together. Fish each have their own personality. You Pacu is just a little meaner, or more territorial. I have an 8" O that actually breaks up fights in his tank.

Thanks to all for you input, my new JD is doing fine in the other tank............

Hope the chuck out of his tail will grow back..........:)

but the question remains, my 92 is pretty empty with only 2 silver dollars, and my problem child the pacu, any suggestions for suitable tankmates?

At this point, you could consider getting rid of the Pacu, he will outgrow you 92. It sounds more like a game of trial and error, because your Pacu seems very aggressive. You could try getting a fish that is larger than the Pacu.
