Today,we will talk on creating artificial caves and hiding places using styrofoam. First,you need to obtain a block or thick piece of this,which you can find at your local hardware outlet or just try to find some discarded at any K-mart or Target outlets. You also need a heatgun or hair dryer. Use your heatgun to shape and create various caves and fissures...be creative! After you finally are satisfied with your results, the next step is to make it safe to put inside your tank..( styrofoam will leach out chemicals if not treated and will never sink ). A poly-resin needs to be coated on your cave which will prevent this. Before this step however,you need to make look like a natural color which you can do by either painting it or by applying Elmer's glue and then applying some rock dust. NOW you are ready for the poly-resin. After this step is finished, let it dry and apply a second coat. This will guarantee that every space is covered. Let this dry and...wa la...you have something that your fish will enjoy! ( Good conservation piece to show to your friends, also!!!!)
